Blackbaud Newsroom
A Workplace That Works for All at Blackbaud
At Blackbaud, we talk a lot about giving back. As a company that’s been focused on social good for 40 years, giving back is not just a core value, but a core part of our DNA. We give to our customers, whose critical work and missions help to make the world a better place. We give to our communities, to support social good in the areas where we live and work. We also give back to our employees—the people who power our company, serve our customers and get involved in their communities to support causes they care about. Without our dedicated, driven, talented employees, none of our work would be possible.
We’re proud that Blackbaud has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers by State 2021, in the state of South Carolina. We’re also proud to have been named a Diversity Champion by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. This valued recognition honors the work Blackbaud is putting in to be a place where people want to come to work every day—a place where diversity and inclusion are woven into the fabric of our thriving culture, and where people feel free to be their authentic selves and pursue their passions.
While we’re proud of this work, we’re not done yet. The world has changed immensely in the last year-and-a-half, and Blackbaud is changing with it. We’ve implemented a new workforce strategy to provide more flexibility and freedom of choice to our employees, and we are no longer requiring employees to be tied to a specific geographic location.
“The pandemic has proven that our employees can do their jobs from anywhere, and that they will step up to the plate for our customers and each other no matter the circumstances,” said Maggie Driscoll, chief people officer, Blackbaud. “We’re embracing a digital mindset and acknowledging that our employees should have the flexibility to work in a variety of ways. We’re looking for the best, brightest and most passionate employees around the world.”
In addition to this new strategy, Blackbaud has focused on supporting our employees through the challenges we’ve all recently faced.
- Wellbeing: We’ve implemented a holistic approach to wellbeing, advocating not just for our employees’ physical health, but mental and emotional health as well. We rolled out “Mindful Mondays” and “Wellbeing Wednesday” to provide simple, bite-sized suggestions for self-care and wellness. We launched the Blackbaud After School Program to support working caregivers in fall 2020. And we created LinkedIn Learning paths specifically dedicated to mental health, stress-coping mechanisms and working virtually.
- Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DEI): We’ve established a global Diversity and Inclusion Council to gather feedback across the company and to continue building DEI into our business strategy. Blackbaud’s workforce is made up of approximately 50 percent women, and we continue to recruit and invest in diverse talent. In our 2021 summer internship program, employee affinity groups continue to grow, connecting people across the company who have similar backgrounds and interests. And we recently updated our company holidays and observances to include Juneteenth as a paid corporate holiday for our U.S. employees, beginning in 2022.
- Social Good: Even though our employees haven’t been able to gather due to COVID-19 restrictions, their desire to get involved hasn’t changed. We’ve invested in ways to help employees participate in virtual volunteering in locations around the world, and we permanently increased our company match for employee donations by 30 percent. We’re dedicated to bringing our commitment to the communities around us and increasing the global impact of our employees’ generosity, of both their time and their money.
- Listening to and Connecting Employees: We recently conducted an employee engagement survey, asking all employees across the company to share their thoughts and ideas on what’s working at Blackbaud, as well as ways we could improve our workplace. Employees gave highly favorable ratings for their relationships with their managers, the impact they feel they have in their roles, and the wellbeing resources that Blackbaud has made available. We held in-depth sessions to share the survey results with employees and to discuss areas of opportunity. To celebrate Blackbaud’s 40th Anniversary in May, we held a “Coffee Roulette” series, connecting employees from around the globe for thirty-minute, one-on-one, casual chats, which gave people a chance to get to know people they may not work with day-to-day.
A company is a compilation of its employees. At Blackbaud, we’re investing in our future by bringing on the best talent from around the world, and enabling employees to grow their careers, balance work and personal life, and make a real difference in the world.
